Designer, founder of @thisoldhudson, and Domino columnist Anthony D’Argenzio of @zioandsons has been lovingly restoring each apartment in a 1910 building located in Hudson, New York for the past two years. Now, he’s sharing every design detail with us. For his first column, we’re exploring his favorite unit—the last space to be completed. The interior channels an upstate New York meets Provence vibe and is filled with reclaimed and vintage finds and materials. ??????????? “I had ordered all that tile from my collaboration with @cletile early on, when I had just finished designing the line,” D’Argenzio says of the unit’s bathroom. “I had it in boxes for months, waiting to use it in this room. It was definitely a full circle moment, working on the product design and then actually having it installed in an environment I created—it felt really surreal.” ??????????? I had good intentions for the beginning of the work week, really I did. But truthfully, Monday was a wash — I’ve found it quite challenging to accomplish anything work-related during these times of civil unrest. Or perhaps we need to reframe “work.” Right now, the work we need to do is not in the traditional sense, but rather the work of the heart. The work of seeing things from a perspective that is not your own. The work of healing the wounds of racial division. The work of beautifully weaving together a world we have not seen before. This is the work we will be proud of as we look back on this unprecedented moment in history. What’s happening in our world right now is unsettling and uncomfortable. It’s heartbreaking and confusing. But this work we have to do has the power to be transformative and unifying. Trying to be gentle with myself, I hope you all are doing the same. For her clients’ Rockleigh, NJ kitchen, New York designer @alyssakapitointeriors used a heavily veined marble to provide personality and texture. A bespoke rift oak island in a dark stain and @urbanelectricco brass pendant lamps offer richness and warmth. Kapito chose fixtures in a mix of metals—an industrial stainless-steel hood, nickel soffits and knobs, leather and chrome stools by @yorkstreetstudio—to create flow and interest.
